Bye Bye Baby
Junior year short film
Group film with Betty Zhenqi Liu, Cindy Tingyue Shang, and Jing Ye
Creation
For my part of the project, I took the character designs created by Cindy and turned them into 3D models. I loved creating such stylized characters although the thinness of their bodies made rigging a little more difficult. However, it was manageable and quite fun to problem solve. The eyes were created with blendshapes and then skinned to the eye joints.
I enjoyed incorporating the characters' personalities into their movements and expressions.
In order to keep everyone on track, I created a progress spreadsheet so we could all see what each other week by week. This was helpful as we could remind and hold each other accountable.
About
For this project, we were put in teams of three or four people in order to create a thirty second film involving two characters. Since we were given the whole semester to work on this project, I suggested that we work on something humorous so that we wouldn't get bored.
We started with a story about a grandson speaking "brainrot," or current slang to his grandmother, who is having trouble understanding him. She then uses these old-fashioned glasses that can translate his speech.
However, when we were writing the script, we collectively came to despise the kid so much that we pivoted to a birth control ad.
