Star
XGen and nCloth project
Responsible for all aspects

About
In my Character FX class, we were told that we were going to set up and simulate both hair and clothing for a model of our choosing. Our professor recommended choosing a pre-made rigged model from online, but being the stubborn over-achiever that I am, I chose to create a character from scratch.
Star's body, clothes, and hair were created purely in Autodesk Maya; the hair was created via XGen. All texturing was done Adobe Substance 3D Painter, and rigging was done in Maya with the help of the Advanced Skeleton 5 plug-in.
Creation
Perhaps made evident by my previous character, Tala, is my affinity to stars as a motif. When we were first told that we were to create a hair groom, I was excited to try to re-create a hairstyle I had seen while doom-scrolling on TikTok (video to the left).
However, since one of the requirements for the project was to have longer grooms that could be simulated, I decided to gather more reference and design a similar but new hairstyle.
In doing so, I created a hairstyle that reminded me of Japanese magical girls. Charmed with the concept, I decided to delve further into it with the costume design. I ended up with the above sketches and turnaround.
